Over the Waves (Sobre las olas) is the best known composition of Mexican composer Juventino Rosas (1868-1894). Born into a poor Native American family, Rosas learned to play the violin and began to compose as a young boy. After moving to Mexico City, he became a well-known musician while still a teenager. Written in a classical Viennese waltz style, Over the Waves became a hit in Mexico, the United States, Europe, and elsewhere.
