Lo! Christ The Lord Is Born is actually the second coming of this carol. Elgar and his wife sent the work out as a part-song Grete Malverne on a Rock in 1897 as their Christmas card. The poet Shapcott Wensley librettist of The Banner of St George set his words to the tune and it was published as this carol in 1909.
