Matthew Mark Luke And John is a West Country folk song arranged for SATB chorus by Gustav Holst. It was published as part of a collection of six such arrangements in 1916 forming the composer'sopus 36b. The work was dedicated to W. G. Wittaker (1876-1944) a highly respected conductor pedagogue and composer. Gustav Holst (1874-1934) was an English composer and teacher. Having studied underStanford and Parry he became a close friend of Vaughan Williams they would often critique each other’s work and influenced composers such as Tippet and Britten. He is best remembered for his Planets suite.
