This is an exciting and challenging setting of Psalm 46. It opens with a fanfare-like figure from the organ and a homophonic setting of the text. Be still and know that I am God, acts as a refrain throughtout the work, while Jones explores different vocal textures and rhythmic settings to illuminate the text. After a climatic setting of The Lord of hosts is with us, the organ reduces to a low trill and a final statement of be still. . . brings the work to a peaceful conclusion. This would be an excellent wrok for a large church or university choir.
