This solo, commissioned by the Topeka and Northeast Kansas Music Teachers Association, is aptly named. The A section begins with a delicate melody in G major, creating the image of a brightly shining field of sunflowers. The B section depicts the wind gently blowing through the wheat fields. The left hand in this section is expansive and covers a wide range. The melody is an excellent study of harmonic intervals, especially thirds. The ! time signature adds to the lilting quality of the piece. The complete picture of the music paints a beautiful and lyrical tribute to the state of Kansas. Intermediate. |
