Ophee launches his series The Guitarist's Repertoire, a collection of works from the19th and early 20th centuries that he describes as "off-the-beaten-track." With the Solo and Variations, Ophee introduces us to a Carulli that we may not know - the virtuosic guitar composer, and a working of the very familiar Nel cor piu set apart from its contemporaries (Sor, Giuliani) by Carulli's extensive solo introduction (and several other elements, as discussed by Ophee). The result is an excellent choice to open The Guitarist's Repertoire series and one worthy of the attention of classical guitarists everywhere. |
