The sounds of Spain are heard throughout this piece, beginning with its fanfare-like introduction and ending with the same material in the coda. It is written in the key of D natural minor and in 3/4 meter. After the 15-measure introduction, the following section is slower and lyrical. Here, the melody is in the right hand and the left- more...hand using an extended bass figure. This section is expanded by a trill figure that gradually gets faster and leads into a repeat of the melodic material one octave higher. The last 16 measures of the solo are a return to the first tempo and the same thematic material that builds to a full and rich conclusion. |
