English. Translation: Clarence Walworth. Text by Ignaz Franz.
An extremely solid, straightforward concertato on the hymn that is for Catholics as "A Mighty Fortress" is for Lutherans! After two unison stanzas in Eb with brass and organ, it modulates to F and gives the third stanza to the a cappella choir using the original harmonization. Stanza 4 then pulls out all the stops with creative brass writing and soaring soprano descant. The assembly can sing on all four stanzas, or leave stanza 3 to choir alone.
6 handbells or orchestral chimes.
A bright, fresh arrangement of an old favorite. | |
