It is difficult to find information about J. Dressler. In F. Pazdirek's amazingly complete and accurate 1904-10 Universal-Handbuch der Musikliteratur Aller Zeiten und Volker, a listing occurs for this Quartet Opus 10 in A major. It is a reasonable inference that no other compositions by Dressler were published. In Robert Eitner's 11-volume Quellen-Lexikon der Musiker und Musikgelehrten, a Johann Friedrich Dressler is listed, stating that he was born in Halle (Germany) and lived in Magdeburg. It is probable that this edition is from approximately 1800. | |
