Northampton is a four-mallet, intermediate level solo for marimba by Gary Fieldman which utilizes, throughout, the interval of the perfect fifth. Rhythmically, it moves between the meters of 3/4 and 6/8. It uses basic elements of 4-mallet technique which work as great study for advancing marimbists to refine their touch in balancing melody and accompaniment. With its reflective and thoughtful quality, Northampton will please recital audiences while serving as a great technical showcase for advancing marimbists.
