Piano Figures was conceived for the hands of young pianists. Most of the ten short movements do not present big technical challenges, though a few do require a degree of virtuosity. At all times, however, the composer's desire was to state ideas and capture moods in the most direct and economical way possible. Piano Figures was commissioned by Philharmonie Luxembourg, and the first performance was given there by Pierre-Laurent Aimard on the 18th May 2006.
