15th and 16th century English composer John Dowland is credited with pioneering an emotional musical approach to the music of the lute. While the French school of playing was dominant during his time, Dowland further developed the tone, introducing a smoothly elegant melodic style. The four pieces in this New Karl Scheit Guitar Edition perfectly demonstrate Dowland's contributions to the music world, and have been adapted for classical guitar with help of tablature from The Collected Music of John Dowland by Diana Poulton.
