This book is the companion book to 'Phrasing Drum Solos.' Assuming you are playing in 4/4 time, both studies demonstrate how to design a break or solo by constructing phrases of rhythm which are uncommon to the basic pulsation of 4/4 time. This book, however, is somewhat simpler than the earlier one because the breaks are all within the confines of two measures, and the rhythmic patterns of the breaks are phrased mostly in 3/4 time. 'Phrasing Drum Solos,' on the other hand, demonstrates superimpositional phrasing within a longer context of four-measure solos, and the makeup of those solos includes rhythmic patterns phrased in five, seven, nine, etc., as well as three. The reader, therefore, might consider this book a sort of prerequisite study to 'Phrasing Drum Solos.'.
