Faure's "Les Berceaux" (The Cradles), Opus 23 No. 1 written in 1879 is a song set from a poem by Prudhomme. The song's melody is simple, flowing, lyrical and sad. It beautifully describes ships as they head out to sea carrying men, lured by the mystery of the seas, rocked in the water and cradled by women and held back by the soul of "The Cradles". Faure's magical enchanting style in this 3 minute work is captured perfectly by Jason Beghtol's fine arranement for Intermediate Trumpet in B-flat.
