This composition is similar in character to the composer's Gloria setting, with interposed rhythmic and lyric passages, although Exultate Justi is shorter, contains more variance of musical style and was originally written to be performed with solo piano. Like Gloria, this work is a multi-metric, exuberant setting of a liturgical Latin text and has also been set for mixed chorus and full orchestra (2222 4331 Timp 3 perc Hp Stgs), available on a rental-only basis.
This selection has been used to good effect not only, with full orchestra, as a part of Holiday concerts, but also, with piano accompaniment, as a stylistic teaching piece for developing choral singers.
