Scripture Reference: Psalm 118:14-16, 19; Psalm 150:3-6 * uses Psalm 118 and 150 as well as the "Pascha nostrum" * scored for organ, four-part choir, brass and timpani * begins with a long crescendo of instruments to a festive "Alleluia" * an attractive combination of majesty and energy with both declamatory and lyrical writing * central 7/8 section in a buoyant dance feeling with a wonderful swing * typical of Neswick's gift for energy and inventive use of harmony
This sophisticated anthem comprises 21 pages, and keeps all performers constantly engaged. After an instrumental introduction, the choir enters with dramatic statements that alternate with the brass. This format is used throughout the work. There are passages with the choir in two parts or unison. Psalm statements are used later, with Psalm 150 in a festive 7/8 meter. The opening material returns for the last section, and the work ends with loud climatctic Alleluias. Excellent music for larger choirs.
