Sometime There are only Three
Growing up in Bessemer, Alabama I spent many a cold winter's night with my friends playing Christmas carols around the neighborhood and in remote locations on the front lawns of friends' and relatives' homes. It was great fun. There were usually only three of us. We just couldn't seem to enlist that one extra player. If we were lucky we had 3 trombones, but sometime there was a euphonium, tenor sax or bari sax substitute. Finding music was difficult. So we wrote arrangements taken from the hymn book and from other sources. This is the inspiration for this caroling book.
I wanted to achieve two goals in compiling this set of carols: that there would be plenty of them and that they would be easily playable for most trombonists - on cold December nights. With the help of my good friend, Steve Sample, I believe we have succeeded.
So take the book out this Christmas season and have fun. And please "swing" on Steve's arrangements. |
