Throughout the choral community, Thomas Morley's "My Bonnie Lass" is one of the moset recognized pieces of its genre. Originally scored for five voices, it translates beautifully to string orchestra, and Deborah Baker Monday adds her own touch by sharing the melody through all sections of the string orchestra. As tutti sections alternate with simple counterpoint, the arrangement stays light, airy, and firmly rooted in G Major. The single meter change can be negotiated without losing any character or sixteenth century style. A fine choice! |
