Originally "Oh When the Saints" was used as a funeral march in places like New Orleans, Louisiana. The coffin would be escorted to the cemetery with a sombre lament, but on the way back it was custom to break out into a hot Dixieland version. This well known number has been given fresh life by arranger Anton Burger, and features the clarinet/soprano sax, trumpet and trombone in solo roles. |
