Maslanka wrote his euphonium concerto for son Matthew and the Hellgate High Wind Ensemble (Missoula, MT). The title reflects the concerto's pondering of our distant, cosmic origins and the interconnectivity of our species on our home planet. He points out that, quite coincidentally, the euphonium is often known as a "eupho," which may or may not have given rise to the title. Dur.: 17'. |
