Weber's Andante and Hungarian Rondo Op.35 is quite effective in this arrangement for bass clarinet and piano by Dalton Ringey. The work was originally composed in 1809 for viola, although this version was not published for more than a century. The composer revised the work for bassoon in 1813, and it was in this form that it was published in 1816. The bassoon version is the basis for this arrangement. The work is similar in both style and difficulty level to the composer's familiar Concertos and Concertino for clarinet. This arrangement therefore adds to very useful repertoire for contest, audition, or recital. Maintaining the keys of the original (C minor/major) places this arrangement in the comfortable keys (D minor/major) for the bass clarinet soloist. |
