This Magnificat and Nunc dimittis has been take from Rachmaninov's Vespers, composed in January and February of 1915, while the composer was living in Moscow. It has been transposed up a semitone.
Note values have of necessity been altered in order to achieve correct accents in the English language, but neither the melodies nor the harmony have been altered.
The composer did not set the words"As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be". Bars 1-4 of the Gloria Patri have therefore been repeated in order to accomodate the Anglican liturgy. |
