This response-verse setting draws on texts from the Mass at Midnight and the Mass during the Day of the Nativity of the Lord, its intended use is for the Communion processions of Christmas, especially given the composition's length and substance for longer processions on that solemnity. The text reflects "the deeper theological implications of the Incarnation and its connection to the entire Paschal Mystery." The piece is effective as well with only a cantor singing the verses.
