The setting of a Latin hymn Te Deum laudamus to music preceded only shortly Dvorak's departure for America. The composer was fond of the text and in his approach to it, the tradition of church music, as Dvorak knew it intimately from Czech church choirs, consorts with the magnificent oratorio style. The piano reduction, based on the critical edition of the score, was worked out by Karel Solc.
