Scripture: Romans 8:38-39; Lamentations 3:26.

A moving original composition written as a piece of comfort and solace in recognition of those suffering from dementia. The text from Romans 8 and Lamentations 3 expresses a deep and quiet faith. Part of the National Lutheran Choir Series/NLC Series. Reviews: The National Lutheran Choir was very lucky to have a member of our Bass section commission this beautiful work from PJR. He's added a gorgeous melody to a text of reassurance and uplift, all on top of an existing piano instrumental by Thad Fiscella, and the journey is very moving. Rising and melismatic lines paint a vivid picture of life into the after-life. Great ranges for all parts, occasional unisons, some humming...this piece is a great addition to church choir rep, especially in remembrance of those we've lost. The piano part is accessible and is an equal partner to the vocal line. "It is good that one should both hope and quietly for the salvation of the Lord!" -Adam Reinwald, Assistant Conductor, National Lutheran Choir This lovely piece requires sopranos with a well-developed high tessitura and basses comfortable on low E. The choral parts are challenging, with subtle moving parts and rhythms, but they evoke a sense of unease and disorientation along with the longing for hope one feels when you or a loved one suffers. The work was commissioned in remembrance of Rev. David William Schmidt and written to provide solace to others suffering from dementia. The text, from Romans 8:38-39 and Lamentations 3:26, makes the piece very suitable for evening prayer and for the Advent Season. -Dr. Barbara Leyden, DMA, St. Joseph Catholic Church (Shawnee, KS) Part of the National Lutheran Choir Series/NLC Series.
