The work's title refers to the time of year of David's birthday and to its traditional rondo form. Autumn Rondo was commissioned by my dear friend, Heather Pettit Johnson, as a birthday gift for her husband, one of the the most distinguished horn players of our time, David Johnson founding member of the American Horn Quartet, prize winner in the Geneva International Horn Competition, principal horn player of several orchestras in Europe and the United States, and currently professor of Horn at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, Switzerland. The title refers to the time of year of Davids birthday, and to the works traditional ABACA rondo form.
