The opera "Nais", which premiered on 22 April 1749 to celebrate the signing of the so-called Peace of Aachen at the Academie royale in the Palais-Royal in Paris and was re-performed in August 1764, shortly before Rameau's death, won as a "Peace Opera." The Critical Edition, presented by Pascal Denecheau within the Opera Omnia Rameau, is the fruit of a meticulous comparison of all known musical sources and presents in the main body the version that Rameau validated in the 1749 performances. The appendices contain those passages that the composer deleted during rehearsals in 1749 and any changes he made for the new production of 1764. Especially in his Ballets Rameau reveals his full orchestral mastery here. |
