There are very few pieces in the Nikolai Kapustin oeuvre like this Sonatina intentionally written as aneasy piece. Kapustin was approached by a music school for children and asked to write something 'not too difficult', and although he at first declined he changed his mind and turned towards writing something 'easy'; his Sonatina for piano, Op. 100 was composed in 2000. The piece is written in the style of a simple classical sonatina, which makes it easily approachable, and sounds as if it were something from Haydn's or Mozart's chamber music performed with a jazz combo.ABRSM Piano 2019 and 2020 Grade 8 Syllabus. |
