Published in 1928, 24 Little Melodic Studies by the French flautist and composer Marcel Moyse (1889-1984), aims to develop the capacities of interpretation of each flautist, from beginners to advanced level players. Written with almost no guidance on how to interpret each study, Marcel Moyse deliberately left the choice to the flautist to pick their own rhythm/tempo and to write their own annotations on the book. The melodies being simple, 24 Little Melodic Studies can help beginners to improve their techniques as much as it can be beneficial to advanced students to keep improving their skills. Considered as a maestro by some musicians, Marcel Moyse has composed many flute methods and exercise books also published by Alphonse Leduc, such as Mécanisme-Chromatisme (1927) and De la Sonorité (1934). His methods are widely used and recognized worldwide. |
