Assembled from passages in Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass, this work conceptually compares his rolling verses with those of the Psalms, so it is fittingly accompanied by the organ, historically associated with religious services. One percussion instrument is featured in each of the four movements, to give each of them a unique perspective on the voice of God.
