It is not well-known that the eminent pianist Walter Gieseking (1895-1956) also composed. Apart from music for the piano and chamber pieces, he wrote this song cycle for his daughters Jutta and Freya. The songs have been recorded on CD by Elisabeth Schwarzkopf.
