This string trio is a paraphrase: not only its name but its four-part structure and essential characters are derived from the eponymous poem by Lassi Nummi. In one respect, however, the music goes its own way: where Nummi has a sombre memento mori concluding each stanza, Heinio's trio breaks into a song, a canto, which is broader every time.
