Leonard Garrison’s edition of Telemann‘s 12 FANTASIAS is a remarkable compendium of resources. Every repeated section is written out with ornaments provided on the repeats. Garrison’s prefatory sections on style elements, performance practice, and specifics of each Fantasia work in tandem with the edition to prompt elegant and historically informed performance. Garrison based his ornamentation style largely on Telemann’s Methodical Sonatas which indicate the standard notation of the melody line, with an ornamented version printed below – an invaluable window into authentic performance practice.
