A Fallen Leaf stems from an event in the composer's life when he witnessed the one single leaf that had stayed on a tree all winter only to be torn off in the season's final snowstorm. Boysen's expert writing for the percussion section sets the foundation for this tragic work. A depiction of the will to survive is juxtaposed with the individual struggles, often unsuccessful, that occur in all our lives.
