Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by Elliot Chasanov. Italian Renaissance. Coil bound score & parts. Published by Cherry Classics (CY.CC2783).
Hodie Christus natus est (Today Christ is Born) is an a cappella double-choir choral motet from Gabrieli's famous Sacrae symphoniae of 1597. Mr. Chasanov has arranged this music beautifully for a 10-part brass ensemble of two 5-part choirs (double brass quintet).
The music is full of remarkable rhythmic counterpoint demanding full concentration from the performers.
The 4 minute arrangement is appropriate for moderately advanced performers.
This is an ideal choice to be used for general recitals or as a jubilant work for the Christmas period.
Instrumentation: 4 Trumpets in B-flat 2 Horns in F 2 Trombones or Euphoniums 2 Tubas (or Bass Trombones) substitute Trombone parts for the Horn parts.
