Dr. Claudia Maurer Zenck, currently Professor at the University of Hamburg, has assembled the definitive collection of the Early Songs of Ernst Krenek. She provides an excellent overview of the songs and their sources, then discusses the various versions and the individual songs. Critical notes are included in the back of each volume. Krenek, perhaps best known for his opera Jonny Spielt Auf, earned his place among the best composers of the 20th Century, and Dr. Zenck's compilation provides an excellent study of his early output.
