Seahawk is a dynamic-sounding overture with a classic ABA structure. From an energetic opening motif, a rhythmical accompaniment structure develops, which supports the playful and agile theme. A second, more melodic theme then makes graceful lines above the still rhythmic foundation. The euphoniums introduce the middle movement, then pass on the lyrical melody to the woodwinds. From that moment on, the tension builds to a grand tutti passage, which is abruptly interrupted by the rhythmical accompaniment motif. In the final movement, we hear the first two themes again in a different order and with different orchestration. |
