Deze vond plaats op 10 maart 1906 en wordt beschouwd als de meestindringende mijncatastrofe in Europa en de op een na ergste van de wereld. De compositie is zowel emotioneel al spectaculair: in zeven contrasterende delen vertelt ze het aangrijpende verhaal van de ramp. Fraternity was het verplichte werkvoor de kampioensdivisie van de Europese Brassband Kampioenschappen van 2016 in Lille; hiermee wordt tevens de ramp van Courrieres herdacht, die 110 jaar geleden plaatsvond.
