7/4 can be a challenge to play with conviction for those who are not used to it (hence the title), but I feel the rewards are worth it. The Baritones set the scene, with a question and answer section giving a driving feel. The higher instruments join in in pairs, with contrasting themes and rhythms, creating a layered effect, while keeping the energy levels up. This piece contains many rich harmonies and contrasting rhythms, while still being very melodic. Towards the end, there is a slightly faster section, before a quieter relaxing contrast to end. This piece needs to be played with rhythm and energy, without being distracted by the contrasting rhythms on the other parts.
