Composed by Michael Kibbe. Chamber music. Published by Potenza Music (P2.60032). This piece for trumpet and horn was originally composed in 1989 and was greatly recomposed 20 years later. Works for two brass instruments present a specific challenge for the composer. Player fatigue must be definitely factored into the writing. A fanfare-like opening sets the tone for the first movement, followed by a more lyric theme. The second movement has a chant quality about it, and brief cadenza passages for each instrument. The final movement is quite animated, with the two instruments often imitating each other at close time intervals.
