Composer Brian Balmages says, This contemplative and thoughtful work was commissioned by a consortium of schools led by Alexander Lapins at Northern Arizona University. Lapins requested that the work have a solo euphonium or tuba option. While the two parts are very similar, they diverge in key places to take advantage of the unique characteristics of each when necessary. The work is meant to showcase the lyrical capabilities of the tuba and euphonium while also allowing for some virtuosic work..
