Anton Stadler (1753-1812) was a renowned clarinettist and was the inspiration for both of Mozart's compositions for clarinet - the Quintet in A K. 581 and the Concerto in A K. 623 - which are considered to be two of the greatest works in the repertoire for the instrument.
