Composed by Public Domain. Arranged by Jeff D. Anderson. Christian,Gospel,Praise & Worship,Sacred,Spiritual. Score and parts. 73 pages. AnderKamp Music #3637271. Published by AnderKamp Music (A0.742695).

Beginning with a simple to play, yet bold sounding brass fanfare, this orchestral driven piece is a great opener to a service. Based around a snare drum type cadence, this arrangement features the brass at the beginning and end and slows down in the middle a little to feature the woodwinds. Plenty of energy in this piece makes this a ‘go to’ piece when wanting to feature the orchestra.

This arrangement is in the Key of F and changes keys to C.
As true to the entire series, this arrangement features playable, easy to read rhythms for all sections.
The 8 Core Orchestra is a full orchestra series designed to work with a core group of 8 players plus piano/rhythm.

8 Core instrumentation:
2 woodwinds, 2 trumpets, 1 horn, 2 trombones and 1 bass trombone or tuba

Full instrumentation:
2 flutes, oboe, 2 clarinets, bassoon/bass clarinet, 3 trumpets, 2 horns, 2 trombones, 1 bass trombone/tuba, 2 violins, viola, cello, double bass, harp, percussion (2 players), timpani, piano, electric bass, guitar(s) and drums (guitar and drums read from rhythm chart)

Composed by J. R. Shannon. Arranged by Nick Raspa. Celtic,Folk,Holiday,Irish. Score and parts. 40 pages. NJR Music #443183. Published by NJR Music (A0.754017).

Receiving an outstanding review in the August 2000 issue of the American String Teacher Journal, this arrangement will be a welcome addition to your concert lineup. The arrangement is set in the key of D Major and, preserving the composer's original lush harmonies, features a Viola soloist playing the familiar tune with the full string orchestra for support.  The soloist plays the verses and the orchestra responds in the refrain.

This will also make a wonderful opportunity for teaching the dotted eighth/sixteenth rhythm which recurs throughout the piece. The only instrument required to play in third position is the first violin

Contains the score and a full set of parts.

There is an orchestral backing track which is the string orchestra without the soloist. It is available at:

Composed by Carson Cooman. Contemporary. Score and parts. 54 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3037087. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533667).

Pittsburgh Concerto (2005) was written for the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic and is
dedicated to Amy Stabenow, concert manager at Carnegie Mellon’s School of Music. The
piece was conceived as a tribute to the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.
The work contains only two specific “programmatically inspired” images related to
Pittsburgh. They form the outer two sections of the work. The inner four sections are
inspired more abstractly by various aspects of the city, its landscapes, and its people; they
feature a series of solos and duets for many members of the orchestra – in the manner of a
“concerto for orchestra.”
The opening of the work is inspired by Pittsburgh’s history as America’s steel capital.
Colors and sounds of the clangorous industrial age of America’s past are evoked. The basic
musical material (a six-note cell) for the entire work is presented in this aggressive
introduction. Throughout the rest of the work, this basic material is developed in ways that
range from lushly romantic to aggressively athletic.
The following section is marked “slow, lush” and features a duet first between trumpet and
tuba, over warm harmonies in the orchestra. A brief duet for vibraphone and marimba leads
to an extended viola solo.
The next section is fast and energetic. It begins with an athletic duet for English horn and
bass trombone, followed by a ringing duet of tubular bells and crotales. The final solo is for
violin, as the orchestral texture disintegrates around it.
The next section, marked “slow, mystical”, begins with a duet between piano and bass
clarinet. A passionate horn duo follows before a passage for solo bass leads directly into the
next section.
This section is fragmentary and halting. An unpitched duo of bass drum and flexatone
begins, leading to an aggressive and abortive duet between solo flute and bassoon. Finally,
an extended cello solo closes the section.
The final part of the work is inspired by my first visit to Pittsburgh. When driving in from
Pittsburgh airport (which is far outside the city), the city itself is “hidden” from the road by
hills. Upon reaching the hills, one enters the Fort Pitt tunnel and, after a few moments,
emerges from it on a suspension bridge over the Monongahela River. Late at night, this was
a truly breathtaking moment as the city and its rivers emerged suddenly in a mass of glittering
lights. The ecstatic rush of the lighted city at night is portrayed in this section – amidst
fragments from the opening, recalling the industrial past, now transformed into something
new.

Composed by David Warin Solomons. Christian,Contemporary. Score and parts. 17 pages. David Warin Solomons #519341. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.576915).

This is based on the Organ Voluntary that was originally written for the mass for men's voices and organ. It is intended as an optional finale for the Mass for choir and orchestra (also available on this site), but it can also be performed as a separate item. The themes of the choral setting of the mass are taken up by the orchestra, leading to a musical mix reminiscent in some places of film soundtracks. The congregation is blessed by the priest and leave the church in exuberant mood with the music of the Mass ringing in their ears in this orchestral extravaganza. The sound sample is an electronic preview but a professional live recording is expected soon. The pdf file contains just the score. The score with parts is also available on this site. The Mass for choir and orchestra itself, and also the original versions for men's voices and organ and for sopranos, altos, men's voices and organ are also available on this site.

Composed by Georg Goltermann. Arranged by Michele Galvagno. Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 65 pages. Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele #3501895. Published by Artistic Score Engraving di Galvagno Michele (A0.841329).

This is a solo and string orchestra version of the third movement from Georg Goltermann (1824-1898) fourth cello concerto in G major.

As a greatest hit in the cello students’ repertoire, it is seldom performed in its full orchestral version, mainly due to the lack of a full symphonic orchestra in little music schools.

This arrangement for string quintet or orchestra (with the viola easily adaptable as a third violin) hopes to solve this most basic problem and give students a great chance for a public performance they will never forget!

Reduction to String Orchestra by Aaron Meier

Part: Double Bass

History:

The Olga-Polka itself owed its creation to a Russian royal wedding which took place in St. Petersburg on 28 August 1857. On that day, amid accompanying splendour, the music-loving Grand Duke Michail Nikolaievich (1832-1909), youngest brother of Tsar Alexander II, married Princess Caecilie of Baden (1839-91), daughter of Archduke Leopold of Baden. Johann Strauss, who at that time was giving a summer season of concerts in nearby Pavlovsk, used the opportunity occasioned by the event to enhance his already enviable popularity with the Russian royal family and composed the Caecilien-Polka in honour of the lovely young bride. Indeed, it is clear from a letter which Johann wrote in late July 1857 to Carl Haslinger, his publisher in Vienna, that the new polka had been prepared well in advance of the wedding (the fair copy of the full orchestral score made for the publisher's engraver is dated 9 August) and was enjoying success even before the royal couple's official engagement on 16August 1857. Sometime after performing the Caecilien-Polka in Pavlovsk, Johann despatched the work to the Austrian capital where his brother Josef conducted its Viennese première, together with that of Johann's waltz Telegraphische Depeschen (op. 195, Volume 28), at his own benefit concert in the Volksgartenon Sunday 18 October 1857. The Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung (16.10.1857) remarked that both works have caused a sensation in St. Petersburg and are truly genial Viennese sounds full of verve and melody.

Since tradition demanded that the German Princess Caecilie adopt a Russian name - Olga Feodorovna - before her marriage, so Johann's Caecilien-Polka also underwent a change of identity. On 8 December 1857 Carl Haslinger announced the publication of Strauss's Olga-Polka, on the title page of which is the inscription: Dedicated to her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Olga, née Princess of Baden. It was under this title, too, that Johann himself first conducted the work in Vienna at a concert in the Volksgarten on 1 November 1857, shortly after his return from Russia. Reporting on this event, the Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung (3.11.1857) observed: The 'Olga-Polka' is a most delightful, fragrant musical bouquet, full of fine, gracious rhythms.
