Brass Ensemble Trombone,Trumpet - Level 2 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1491035

Composed by Michael Praetorius. Arranged by Alberto Mandarini. Baroque,Chamber,Classical,Instructional,Renaissance. 18 pages. Alm@music #1067793. Published by Alm@music (A0.1491035).

Brass Ensemble: 3 Trumpets and 2 Trombones - Grade 2.

This is also a transcription and a small adaptation of the original score.

I chose “La Bourrée” by Michael Praetorius mainly for educational purposes thanks to the not excessive difficulty, but perfect for students with an intermediate level of preparation. Furthermore, the skillful writing of Praetorius and the beauty of this short composition of his, make the piece absolutely suitable to be included in any concert program.

Starting from the 4 canonical parts, I focused above all on the redistribution of the voices bringing them to 5 and intervening on the reorganization of the refrains. Always with the utmost respect for the original score, I simply imagined two opposing choirs that alternate, responding to each other and becoming protagonists from time to time, thus replacing the mere repetition of the refrains.

The themes, in turn and to the extent possible, were distributed across all the voices using, in some cases, even simple doubling.

As in the adaptation of Contrapunctus I by J. S. Bach, ( https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/en/product/contrapunctus-i-from-the-art-of-the-fugue-bwv-1080-22828292.html ) the choice to use 3 trumpets and 2 trombones, and not the more typical brass quintet (2 trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba), was dictated by the formation for which I made the transcription.

Finally, on a didactic level, this piece was fundamental to consolidate a formation at the first experiences and allowed me to deepen the salient aspects of ensemble music such as listening, musical breathing and interplay in its broadest sense.

To the individual parts, as usual, I also added that of the horn in F, replacing the 3rd trumpet. At your discretion, of course, to decide whether to replace it or double it directly.

The total duration is about 2 minutes and 20 seconds and the midi audio should be useful to get an idea of ??the arrangement and to be able to study the individual parts.

Good Music!

SKU: A0.880174

Composed by Traditional, James Weldon Johnson. Arranged by Luke Furman. Contemporary,Halloween,Sacred,Spiritual. 16 pages. Furman Musical Arrangements #4301235. Published by Furman Musical Arrangements (A0.880174).

The familiar Dry Bones tune is slowly assembled over the course of this 4 minute work for flute trio!  The opening is spooky and mysterious, and it winds its way to a jaunty conclusion.  The subject matter seemed to lend itself to some spookier harmonies and sound effects, so the piece also makes use of flute effects including key clicks, tongue slaps, and breathing into the instrument to illustrate the dry bones coming back to life and walking around.  Flute 1 is somewhat more technically challenging than flutes 2 and 3.  Score and individual parts are included.  Key: F Major, Duration: about 3'55.

By The Platters. By Jerome Kern and Otto Harbach. Arranged by Timothy Stapay. Broadway,Film/TV,Jazz,Musical/Show,Singer/Songwriter,Standards. Score. 8 pages. Timothy Stapay #821814. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1225761).

Smoke Gets In Your Eyes is arranged as played by piano artist, Liberace.
This version is from the rare early album Liberace At Home.

Smoke Gets in Your Eyes is a show tune written by American composer Jerome Kern and lyricist Otto Harbach for the 1933 musical Roberta. The song was sung in the Broadway show by Tamara Drasin. Its first recorded performance was by Gertrude Niesen, who recorded the song with orchestral direction from Ray Sinatra, Frank Sinatra's second cousin,[1] on October 13, 1933.

On October 30, 1946, Nat King Cole recorded the song in his trio with Oscar Moore on guitar and Johnny Miller on double bass, during a live broadcast from New York City.[10] Cole performed it on television in 1957 for The Nat King Cole Show.

Władziu Valentino Liberace (May 16, 1919 – February 4, 1987) was an American pianist, singer, and actor.  A child prodigy born in Wisconsin to parents of Italian and Polish origin, he enjoyed a career spanning four decades of concerts, recordings, television, motion pictures, and endorsements. At the height of his fame from the 1950s to 1970s, he was the highest-paid entertainer in the world!

Lyrics below:

They asked me how I knew
My true love was true
I of course replied
Something here inside cannot be denied
They said someday you'll find all who love are blind
When your heart's on fire,
You must realize, smoke gets in your eyes

So I chaffed them and I gaily laughed
To think they could doubt my love
Yet today my love has flown away,
I am without my love (without my love)

Now laughing friends deride
Tears I cannot hide
So I smile and say
When a lovely flame dies, smoke gets in your eyes

(Smoke gets in your eyes, smoke gets in your eyes)

Smoke gets in your eyes

By The Moody Blues. By Gary Osborne, Jeff Wayne, and Paul Vigrass. Arranged by Kevin Riley. 20th Century,Film/TV,Rock. Score and parts. 43 pages. Kevin Riley #135691. Published by Kevin Riley (A0.525156).

Forever Autumn is a song written by Jeff Wayne, Gary Osborne and Paul Vigrass. The original melody was written by Wayne in 1969 as a jingle for a Lego commercial. Vigrass and Osborne, the performers of the original jingle, added lyrics to the song and recorded it for inclusion on their 1972 album Queues. Their interpretation was also released as a single and gained moderate commercial success in Japan, selling more than 100,000 copies and becoming a top-20 hit on the country's record chart. The best-known version is the recording by Justin Hayward from the album Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds. Wayne wanted to include a love song on the album that sounded like Forever Autumn, and he decided that the best course of action was to simply use the original song. Wayne chose Hayward, of The Moody Blues, to sing it saying that he wanted that voice from 'Nights in White Satin'.It was recorded at London's Advision Studios in 1976. The song reached #5 on the UK Singles Chart in August 1978. A new version was released in late 2012, sung by Gary Barlow for the new album Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds – The New Generation.

Composed by Elizabeth Borowsky. 20th Century,Classical,Contemporary. Score. 4 pages. Piano Prodigies #809487. Published by Piano Prodigies (A0.1211937).

This piece is about a bear, but it’s also about a chameleon. And a secret message. Yes, for real! The right hand part is a musical chameleon: a secret code word (BEAR) is disguised as the melody. The B, E, and A are of course easy to make sense of, but I had to get a little creative with R. In solfège (a musical alphabet for singing) the second note of a scale is “re,” which would be a D in C major. But if you lower it (add a flat), it’s “ra.” This makes it fierce, especially if you say it with a growl-roar at the end: Bea...RA!

Composed by Sergei Prokofiev. Arranged by Sauer, Ralph. 20th Century,Romantic Period,World. Score and part. 32 pages. Gordon Cherry #4820307. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811056).

The Prokofiev Five Songs Without Words, Opus 35 were written in December 1920 during a tour of the USA. The musical format of songs without words is not unusual, as Mendelssohn composed a number of very beautiful ones for the Piano and of course Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise is one of the most famous works in the musical repertoire.

The Five Songs Without Words were premiered in New York City in 1921 by the soprano Nina Koshetz. In 1925, while living in Paris the composer arranged the five brief songs for Violin and Piano. Their haunting, bittersweet and lyrical style is typical of Prokofiev and the advanced performer will find these wonderful miniatures totaling 12 minutes in length a perfect vehicle for a major work on a recital. Mr. Sauer has scored these songs beautifully for the Euphonium and Piano.
