Danse Bacchanale is taken from the 19th-century opera Samson and Delilah by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. The opera tells the story of the Biblical account of Samson and Delilah from the book of Judges. Samson has been given unnatural strength and has become a mortal enemy of the Babylonians. Delilah seeks to seduce Samson in an effort to get him to reveal the source of his strength, allowing the Babylonians to capture and humiliate him. 

The Danse Bacchanale represents this interaction between Samson and Delilah, telling the story of their relationship, the seduction, and the eventual capture. It ends with the “bacchanale�, a wildly celebratory dance.

Almost Home is a moving lyrical piece written for marimba quartet. It’s dedicated to a wonderful friend and spiritual sister who showed tremendous courage and grace in the face of the devastating effects of cancer. The piece opens “with question�, moving through unexpected chords and harmonic colors representing the challenges and uncertainty each day brings when literally fighting for your life. But while those questions aren’t always answered, we move to the piece's second half, “with assurance.� Ms. Carol’s faith gave her the assurance of the home that awaited her, providing a peace that passes understanding. She was an encouragement and inspiration to all who knew her and this piece is just a small and humble effort to remind all of us what it means to be “almost home.�.
