Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.755301

Composed by Sy Brandon. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score. 23 pages. Sy Brandon #6287697. Published by Sy Brandon (A0.755301).

Aurora was composed for Cristian Pastorello, Assistant Professor of Music at Aurora University. The name of the university where Dr. Pastorello teaches was the inspiration for this composition. Further research into the meaning and mythology surrounding Aurora gave rise to the individual movements.

I. Goddess of Dawn – The music of this movement reflects a sunrise from its first hint of light to its full-blazed glory.

II. Ravens - Spirit Guides – Many North American cultures believed that the Aurora Borealis represented spirits of departed ancestors. Ravens were often thought to be the conveyor of the spirit to the heavens. This movement is a scherzo and trio. The scherzo represents the dancing and playful spirits where the trio has an ethereal quality.

III. Sister of the Sun and Moon - The Greeks held that Aurora was the sister of Helios and Seline, the sun and moon respectively, and that she raced across the early morning sky in her multi-colored chariot to alert her siblings to the dawning of a new day. This movement contains colorful harmony. The left hand plays a rising line representing dawn while the right hand represents Aurora racing across the sky through rapid musical motifs.

IV. Celestial Battle Between Good and Evil - It is said that many of the early Chinese legends associated with dragons were a result of the Northern Lights. The belief is that the lights were viewed as a celestial battle between good and evil dragons that breathed fire across the firmament. Battle music dominates the first two-thirds of this movement before giving way to the triumph of good over evil.

Composed by Matthew Compton. General. Bay View Week of Handbells. Score. 20 pages. Chorister's Guild - Digital #CGB1193. Published by Chorister's Guild - Digital (C7.CGB1193).

If you’ve ever had the opportunity to see the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, then you know of the sheer magnitude and stunning beauty this phenomenon provides. Matthew Compton’s original work, Aurora, is part of our new Bay View Week of Handbells Series. It was commissioned by Fred Gramann in honor of his wife, Nancy, and the main melodic theme is a representation of Nancy Gramann’s name. The title Aurora seemed fitting, since the word aurora is defined as dawn. The dawn of a new day can offer a number of different emotional experiences, including joy, excitement, peace, sorrow, beauty, and reminiscence. This composition presents all of these emotions. Those experiencing the breathtaking sight of the Aurora Borealis may experience a similar range of emotions, either individually or simultaneously.

SKU: A0.1001575

Composed by Isabelle Ryder. 20th Century,Contemporary,Instructional. Score. 7 pages. Isabelle Ryder #6261369. Published by Isabelle Ryder (A0.1001575).

This piano etude evokes the evanescent shimmering of the Northern Lights. For the right hand, the piece is an exercise in filigree finger-work, while for the left hand, the main technique is stride. Fingering should be worked out carefully in the right hand (and creative fingering may be the best option in places!).

Aurora Etude was released (as Aurora) on the composer's 2020 album COSMOS, and was a finalist in the 2019 worldwide Fidelio Piano Composing Competition.

String Quartet String Quartet - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.723189

Composed by Juventino Rosas. Arranged by Joel Jacklich (ASCAP). Concert,Holiday,Romantic Period,Wedding. Score and parts. 32 pages. Joel Jacklich #6717977. Published by Joel Jacklich (A0.723189).

José Juventino Policarpo Rosas Cadenas (25 January 1868 - 9 July 1894) was a Mexican composer, violinist, and band leader.

Rosas was born in Santa Cruz de Galeana, Guanajuato, in a poor Otomi Native American family. In his youth he did whatever he could related to music, from ringing church bells to playing violin on the street, making music for his living from age 7 on. He used music for his ambitions to better himself, including composing a waltz in exchange for a pair of shoes.

He moved to Mexico City and soon became a well known musician and composer. At age 12 he was playing violin in one of the city's most popular dance bands. In his early teens, he worked accompanying well known singer Angela Peralta. Although he applied twice for entrance to the National Music Conservatory and briefly studied there, he was mostly self taught.

Rosas led a large orchestra and a brass band that toured internationally.

Rosas's best known work is Sobre las Olas or Over the Waves. This classic waltz has often been mistakenly thought by many to be Viennese, and frequently attributed to Johann Strauss II. It was first published by Rosas in 1884 when he was in New Orleans, Louisiana with the popular Mexican band at the World Cotton Centennial World's Fair. (It was later republished in Mexico and Europe in 1888, and 1891; these later years are sometimes incorrectly given as the piece's first publication date.)

Rosas died in Surgidero de BatabanĂł, Cuba. Fifteen years later, in 1909, his remains were brought back to Mexico.

Here is his Aurora Waltz from 1890, as arranged for string quartet by Joel Jacklich (A.S.C.A.P.)..
