This MP3 recording, meant to be used in conjunction with the “Practicing with the Pros” American folk music sheet music series, (found on this website) is a powerful resource for developing sense of sound, intonation and rhythm.

The student can play along with both parts of the duet or practice to the second violin part as edited and recorded by professional violinist, Kirstin Fife. Her numerous credits include “Finding Nemo” and “Star Trek.”

The young violinist can also have the fun of playing along with the piano accompaniment version, as recorded by pianist Alan Steinberger. He can be heard on “Toy Story 4,” “Wish,” and countless other films.

By Santana. By Tito Puente. Arranged by Joseph Hasper. Latin,Pop,Rock. Score and parts. 19 pages. Joseph Hasper #3563005. Published by Joseph Hasper (A0.734830).

The Santana and Tito Puente smash hit arranged for four horns (trumpet, alto sax, tenor sax, trombone) and rhythm section (piano, bass, and drums).

Key of D. 105 measures. Includes a full score and complete set of parts.

Oye Como Va was written by Latin jazz king Tito Puente in 1963. Santana's 1971 version reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song has the classic rhythm and tempo of cha-cha-cha. The fact that the phrase Oye como va is the title of the song and is sung somewhat separately from the phrase mi ritmo makes it easy to interpret the meaning as Hey, how's it going? However, the first sentence is actually Oye como va mi ritmo, meaning Listen to how my rhythm goes.
