Published by Dan McCoy (A0.1284426). Composed in dedication to Prof. Bernhard Klapprott and Prof. Myriam Eichberger as well as their students at the Early Music Department of The University of Music founded by Franz Liszt in Weimar, Germany.During the early 21st century, the Weimar Rathaus, or City Hall, marked each quarter hour by chiming the so-called Westminster Quarters, clearly announced in the opening measures of The Bells of Weimar. This piece is a re-working of Renaissance composer William Byrd's The Bells, which appeared in The Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, an important collection of 16th-17th-century keyboard music from England. Byrd's original two-note bell theme, which runs throughout his entire piece, has been replaced with Westminster Quarters in this neo-Renaissance mash-up, altering the ensuing harmonies in a striking way.- from the Preface to the forthcoming collection of music by Dan McCoy entitled, The Weimar Virginal Book, expanded edition (2024).
