This is an African-American traditional Christmas song with the lyrics Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere, go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born. The first publication of the song was in 1901. It was later popularised by recordings including those of Peter, Paul and Mary and Simon and Garfunkel. This easy violin arrangement gives both violinists the opportunity to play the melody. The lower part has some pizzicato, while the upper part has a slightly more decorated melody. The full repeat is optional.

The popularity of the song has stood the test of time. The lyrics refer to how quickly time passes and is a lovely reminder to take each day as it comes and make the most of it.The arrangements I am working on this year are songs that I consider to be important. This song is one of my favourites--I loved the Kansas version of it--with the violin, voice, and two guitars.My arrangement is written in 4/4 time with an almost constant left hand arpeggio bass as a nod to the guitar arrangement. The verse and chorus are repeated three times, each time a little bit differently and explores the full range of the piano. I write this for intermediate to early advanced players--it is a good challenge! There are tricky double-note passages, and some interesting syncopated rhythms.
