Broadway,Film/TV,Multicultural,Musical/Show,World. Score and parts. 5 pages. David McKeown #6499473. Published by David McKeown (A0.593726). Hakuna Matata is one of the best loved songs from the 1994 Disney film The Lion King, reprised in both the Broadway stage show and the 2019 remake. This version is arranged as a Duet for one Trumpet and one Tenor Saxophone. Written by Elton John with lyrics by Tim Rice, the original version was sung by Jimmy Cliff and Lebo M. Hakuna Matata means no worries in Swahili. The song was nominated for an Oscar in 1995 but was was beaten to the award by Can You Feel the Love Tonight, another song from the same film. Musicians at an intermediate standard will find this ideal for formal and informal concert performances. Total performance time is around three minutes. This version contains three different choruses as sung in the film, with instrumental interludes in between. In the films, this instrumental music lies underneath the spoken dialogue. Click on the YouTube link above to listen to a full length performance of this arrangement played on Clarinet.Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to approach swing and syncopated rhythms. Published by Pfitzinger Music (A0.1489660). Written for solo alto singer and piano accompaniment, Epitaph is based on the text from the self-written epitaph of Sir Walter Raleigh:Even such is time, which takes in trustOur youth, our joys, and all we have,And pays us but with age and dust,Who in the dark and silent graveWhen we have wandered all our waysShuts up the story of our days,And from which earth, and grave, and dustThe Lord will raise me up, I trust. The setting of his epitaph acknowledges how time takes everything from us and gives nothing back, but still confesses faith in a future reward.
